Instructions:

How to make a Debian 8 SD card image for the Wandboard.


Step 1.

Format an SD card with the first partition for the root filesystem. Leave about one MB for u-boot and SPL unpartitioned before the first partition.

Download Debian 8 root filesystem from (using wget):
https://rcn-ee.com/rootfs/2015-05-08/debian-8.0-console-armhf-2015-05-08.tar.xz,

Copy the files to the first partition of the SD card.

Install u-boot and SPL in RAW mode to the unpartitioned area before the rootfs.


Step 2.

Download the wandboard u-boot source and apply the patch below:

Step 3.

Copy kernel zImage from
/armv7-multiplatform/deploy/4.0.3-armv7-x2.zImage
to the boot folder on partition 1 in the SD card.


Step 4.

Flash the u-boot image to sdcard:

sudo dd if=SPL of=/dev/sdc bs=1k seek=1 oflag=dsync
sudo dd if=u-boot.img of=/dev/sdc bs=1k seek=69 oflag=dsync

Step 5.

Boot!
